Thank you to those who participated in our giveaway!

It was great fun for us to read the variety of summer traditions; some funny and some sentimental! We chose five of our favorite and most creative traditions and the winner was randomly drawn from our top five.

Here were a some of our favorites:

“Our annual summer long weekend vacation from Thursdaymorning to Sunday afternoon in southern Virginia where we all wear real Maui Hawiian shirts, tan shorts and sandals. A Friday park hike and picknic and a Saturday boat and fishing day on the lake with a family gathering for the annual lobster, clam, and shrimp bake-off with local Virginia wine. A short Sunday church service and we head back to DC, NYC, and Hong Kong late afternoon home for the gathering!”

“Our vacation tradition is going to the Outer Banks of North Carolina every fall. We love the local seafood and just walking on the beach and enjoy the local shops. We always stay in Duck so there are plenty of local seafood markets and restaurants from which to choose. This has been our vacation tradition for the past 20 years. We rent a house for a week or two weeks every year.”

“Our favorite summer tradition is going to the beach for the week of July 4th. We all wear matching t-shirts with the American flag on them and take a picture to document how much everyone has grown/changed. Our family has grown over the years, we are now up to 4 grand boys!”

“An afternoon hike thru Bottom Creek Gorge conservatory followed with a stop at the nearby winery for a fine wine and picnic dinner.”

And the winner is…..drumroll please!…..

“Gardening is in my blood–from flowers to fruits to vegetables and spices. I love to start the gathering in my vintage well-worn farm style aprons, with my woven baskets, both reminders of simpler, bygone times. It is a tradition to preserve different bounty to share with my family, neighbors and friends throughout the year: salsa, jelly, jam, relish, chutney. Summer meals are simple with fresh fruit and vegetables, and trying out new recipes to take advantage of the garden’s wealth. And of course, ending the day by relaxing on the shaded deck with a glass of wine to the evening sounds of summer.”

Thanks again for everyone who participated in our giveaway. We appreciate you and hope you’ll come see us soon!
